Major Ukrainian-Moldovan border demarcation milestone as first border sign in the central section is planted

On January 29 at 13:00 an official ceremony of installation of the first border sign on the central “Transnistrian” part of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border took place at delimitation point #194, Veluka Kisnytsia Village, Yamopil Region in Vinnitsia oblast.
The event marks the first such milestone in joint border demarcation efforts regarding the ‘transnistrian’ segment of the border. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine P. Poroshenko and Vice-Premier Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Y. Lyanke.
The European Commission was represented by Ms. Laura Garagnani, Head of Operations in the EU Delegation. The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) was represented by Mr. Udo Burkholder, acting Head of Mission.
EUBAM has held observer status on the bilateral border demarcation commission since March 2008. EUBAM will shortly deploy a number of experts in support of the Commission. EUBAM supports good quality border and customs services for the people and companies of Moldova, Ukraine and the EU across the entire Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
